Anupam Kher comes to Mumbai to spend some time with his son and daughter-in-law, only to bump into his college sweetheart, Sharmila Tagore during a morning walk. He tries to pick up the strings of a forgotten romance once again, much to the discomfiture of his family.
Credit Baghbaan to opening a whole new window for Bollywood: the romance of the golden oldies. Morning Walk carries forth the romantic saga of the sixty plus with the same dignity and poise that saw a wizened Amitabh Bachchan serenade his non-botoxed wife, Hema Malini in Baghbaan
This time however, it is a white-haired Anupam Kher who re-connects with his college girl friend, Sharmila Tagore after their respective spouses have passed away. Anupam, a retired professor, actually comes to Mumbai from Kolkata to live with his son, Rajit Kapoor and daughter-in-law, Divya Dutta. Naturally, the daughter-in-law hates the intrusion in her nuclear family, but promises to treat him right if he buys her dream house for them. Doting dad doesn't seem to have a problem with this, but only until he finds out he has a few unfulfilled responsibilities still left over. The high point of the film are the performances. While veterans Anupam and Sharmila display a dignified ardour, Divya Dutta and Rajit Kapoor are compelling as the next-gen moralists who try to cope up with dad's new relationships. Watch out specially for Divya as the mean and materialistic daughter-in-law who remains a flesh and blood character (read realistic) throughout the film. Morning Walk is indeed a different story, told refreshingly.
